Happy August Everyone!
The summer has been mellow for me so far, performance-wise, leaving some time for fun with the kids and some attempts at writing new tunes. But here are a few highlights of where we’ve been lately:
To my childhood home of Huntington NY, for a “Homemade Jams” benefit for WhyHunger, nicely documented here by Greg Blank for Fios. (By the way, WhyHunger http://whyhunger.org earned the coveted 4-star “exceptional” rating – for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency — from Charity Navigator, for the fourth consecutive year!)
To Pittsburgh, Bloomington IN, Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland OH..
To downtown NYC, where Ryan Muir captured on camera some of the fun of our free outdoor show on July 2nd.
To Sayville NY for a show last weekend at Soul Sounds Records, one of the growing handful of cool little record stores around the country carrying Reckoning on vinyl.
LP, CD, or mp3, I’m so grateful for the response the album has received..
“sumptuous…irresistible…a surefire gem: the kind of carefully-crafted and sophisticated pop that used to be associated with Paul Simon. Yeah, it’s that good.” Will Layman, Popmatters
But now comes the annual August adventure up north. The Trio featuring Stephan and Jamie plus Maceo and Van is heading first northwest for 5 shows in Ontario, then all the way east for four shows in Maritime Canada before we head back down to play in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Among the highlights is an August 11th benefit at the esteemed Hugh’s Room in Toronto for “Kids Right to Know,” a campaign for the right to know what’s in our food, founded by the teenage activist Rachel Parent whom I had the pleasure to meet almost exactly a year ago. (We’ll also be back at Hugh’s Room on September 17th for a double bill with our friend Chris Brown & Kate Fenner) I’m looking forward to making some noise in Canada! Please click on “shows” here to check out the schedule and order tickets, and I would be very grateful if you were compelled to share with friends along our route!
Thanks so much for reading, listening, sharing and caring!
PS I’m honored that the vital alternative news website Truthout just republished my story “Have You Ever Been Hungry?” — You can read it here and follow the link from there to the official music video for “Feed Your Baby”
PPS All my albums are available for physical purchase or download at my store here, but the latest is that Linger (2004) and Ready (2006) are now back on itunes! (Not sure why they were gone exactly) I know many of you already have these — please click some stars or leave a quick review if you are so inclined, as the pages are kinda lonely now!
